The Directorate of Economics and Statistics was established on 1st November, 2000 with the formation of the State Chhattisgarh after separation from Madhya Pradesh.

Organization and Functions:

Directorate of Economics and Statistics is designated as a nodal agency for carrying out various statistical activities of the State.

At Districts level all the 27 districts have “Districts Planning and Statistical Office” working under DES and Block Level Investigators are working under districts offices.

The various statistical activities co-ordination, area survey, and data collection/analysis on different subjects, tabulation and the representation of compiled data.

Responsibilities

Compilation of different development indicators.

After Collection, Compilation, Survey, analysis, testing-give the actual socio-economic condition of the State.

Co-ordination among statistical activities of different departments.

Provide data/statistics to Government, Scholars, planners and researchers.

According to the birth-death registration Act 1969, Director of DES is designated as a Chief Registrar for Birth-death registration.
